About Us

Maarifaah is an independent, journalism-led journal examining business, capital flows, infrastructure, and structural economic signals across Africa.

Through long-form reporting and analytical features, it tracks how markets evolve, how policy shapes investment conditions, and how infrastructure systems underpin growth — alongside the cultural and institutional shifts shaping the continent’s trajectory.

Founded by journalist Samuel Okocha, Maarifaah is rooted in editorial discipline and intellectual independence.

The name “Maarifaah” draws from the Kiswahili word maarifa, meaning knowledge grounded in understanding and experience, reflecting a commitment to journalism that informs, enlightens, and empowers

Editorial Background

Samuel Okocha began his media career as a broadcast journalist at Voice of Nigeria, where he spent 15 years serving as reporter, editor, anchor, and producer across Lagos and Abuja.

During this period, he contributed to international broadcasters including Voice of America, BBC, Euronews, and CBC News Network, delivering live analysis and original reporting on Nigerian current affairs.

This broadcast foundation informs his current work tracking capital flows, infrastructure development, and investment dynamics across Nigeria and select African markets.

An alumnus of the Bloomberg Media Africa Initiative and McKinsey Forward, his work lies at the intersection of editorial discipline and market intelligence.
